Learn to Knit

Students will need to bring to class 1 skein of worsted weight yarn from The Yarn Club. We recommend Malabrigo Rios or Berroco Ultra Wool. Please choose a light color. You will need a size 7 or 8 circular needle, 24” is best.

Optional Learn to Knit Book will be shown in class.

Learn to Crochet

Students will need to bring to class 1 skein of worsted weight yarn from The Yarn Club.  We recommend Malabrigo Rios or Berroco Ultra Wool.  Please choose a light color.  You will need a size G or H hook.

Learn to Weave

Join Bonnie for an introduction to weaving using the rigid heddle loom. In this class you will learn all of the basic knowledge you need to complete a lovely scarf. The class will meet three Sundays  from 12-3. During the first class you will learn how to dress the loom and begin weaving.  The second class will cover any questions you may have as you continue your project. The final class will address removing the project from the loom and finishing options. Looms are available to rent for $25, which can be applied to the cost of the loom should you get hooked on fun fiber art! Supplies should be purchased before class so we are ready to make the most of our time.

Supplies:

At least 2 colors of DK yarn, preferably hand dyed. No more than 3, at least 350 yds of 2 main colors required.  Purchased from TYC.

Rigid Heddle loom, 16″ Sample It preferred.

The following items come in your loom kit if you are buying or renting. If you have your own loom, please make sure you bring this list with you.
7.5 to 8 dent s per inch heddle
At least one stick shuttle (Second is optional but not required. Used one in sample)
Warping peg
Reed or heddle hook for threading heddle
Scissors
Tapestry needle (Chibi is a favorite due to the bent tip)
Fork (yep from the kitchen)
Tape measure

Learn to Spin on a Drop Spindle

Learn to spin roving into yarn. This two part class is designed to teach you how to handle your fiber, prep it for spinning and get you spinning right away on a drop spindle. The second class is learn to Ply where you learn how to twist your newly spun fiber into usable, plied yarn.

Materials: a drop spindle and roving from TYC.  Materials MUST be purchased from the shop.

Spinning wheel classes are available by appointment.

Flawless Finishing Part I

Flawless Finishing Homework

Materials:
Darning Needle
Scissors
Worsted Weight Yarn
1 Pair US size 7 Straight or Circular Knitting Needles

Swatch 1: (Please make two)

With a light colored worsted weight yarn and US # 7 or 8 knitting needle, cast on 14 stitches and work in garter stitch (knit every row) for 4 inches. Bind off all stitches.

Swatch 2: (Please make 2)

With a light colored worsted weight yarn and US #7 or #8 knitting needle, cast on 16 stitches and work in stockinet stitch (Row 1: Knit, Row 2: Purl) for 4 inches. Bind off all stitches.

Flawless Finishing Part II

Materials:

  • Two skeins (different colors) of worsted weight yarn
  • 2 size US# 7 or 8 straight OR circular knitting needles
  • One size US#4,5 OR 6 straight OR circular Knitting Needles
  • Darning Needle
  • Scissors
  • Size G OR H Crochet Hook

HOMEWORK:

Swatches #1 AND #2: PLEASE MAKE TWO IDENTICAL SWATCHES!

Using 2 different colors of worsted weight yarn  (color “A” and Color “B”) and a size US #7 OR #8 straight OR circular Knitting needle, cast on 18 stitches with color “A”. Work in Stockinette Stitch  (Row #1 Knit, Row#2 Purl) as followed:

Rows 1-8 – Color “A”

Rows- 9-12- Color “B”

Rows 13-20- Color “A”

Bind off all stitches loosely!

Swatch #3

Using worsted weight yarn and a size US #7 OR #8 straight OR circular Knitting needle, cast on 18 stitches. Work in Stockinette Stitch  (Row #1 Knit, Row#2 Purl) until piece measures 4 inches. Bind off All stitches loosely.

Please Block your Swatches:

Pin your swatches to an ironing board, towel or blocking board. Steam OR mist swatches until damp and let them dry overnight. This will make them flat and easy to work with in class!

Fair Isle

Materials:

  • 2 colors worsted weight yarn
  • Size #7 16” circular knitting needles
  • Homework:
  • On a size #7 16” needle and a solid color worsted weight yarn, cast on 100sts.

    Join in the round being careful not to twist stitches. Place marker.

    Work in k2,p2 rib for 1.5 inches

    Leave stitches on the needle and bring to class!

Crochet for Knitters Homework

Worsted weight yarn

Swatch 1:

Cast on 20 sts

Work in stockinette for 4 inches and bind off.

Swatch 2:

Cast on 20 sts

Work in garter for 4 inches and bind off.
