Rori is teaching a fantastic class in mosaic knitting.  We are using the pattern Opposite Views by Felicia Di Bono.

Students are required to download the pattern at home prior to class.

You will need yarn based on the instructions below and a needle to obtain the proper gauge for the wrap (Size 7-8).  We can help you with all of this in the shop.

Have travel plans?  Don’t worry.  Just try to make the first class to learn the skills, then join in as you can.

Already a mosaic knitting expert?  Join us on Fridays and Saturdays from 1-4 for a Knit-a-long.

Come to class with the first solid section completed.  Use your darkest color.  You will have 125 stitches on your needle.

Yarn:  All from The Yarn Club.  Our faves are Malabrigo Rios, the Fiberist worsted, Arroyo sport, Emma DK

Opposite Views is an ‘almost rectangular’, two-color shawl knitted on the bias, alternating garter stitch and mosaic sections. The mosaic section in the second half of the shawl is the mirror image of the one in the first half, as it is exactly the same but with the colors used in the opposite order. The mosaic is easy but never boring to execute, making the shawl a relaxing but also fun knit.

The shawl is totally adjustable both in length and in width (resizing instructions are provided).

For my original sample I used worsted weight yarn, as I wanted a warm shawl to wear during the cold season, but this shawl can also be knitted using Sport weight or DK yarns (or even fingering) and resized using the instructions provided in the pattern.

For this shawl I strongly recommend to use two solid colors with high contrast.

Malabrigo Rios (100% Merino Superwash, 192 m / 210 yds per skein), worsted weight

3 skeins in color A, shown in Black
3 skeins in color B, shown in Natural

For my sample I used 3 skeins of color A (576 m / 630 yds) and 2.5 skeins of color B (480 m / 525 yds).

Please note that yardage is an estimate and depends on knitting style, tension, yarn and needles used. For this reason, in order to avoid the risk of running out of yarn, I strongly recommend to have one extra skein of each color available.

5.0 mm / US 8 (5.5 / US 9 for bind off) long circular recommended
Or size needed to obtain proper gauge.
